Life is made of moments. Moments that come to life when you capture them in light and shade, through the eye of a device that has forever changed the way we look at the world. The iPhone. Between the moment as it happens, and the memory that makes it happen over and over again, the iPhone has become the world’s favourite* camera, a masterpiece of engineering and design that makes it easier than ever to tell stories and touch lives. A special evening out with friends. The glow of a cityscape at sunrise. The shine on a child’s face on the first day of school. What are your life-moments? What are your magical memories? What are the unforgettable images you want to share?

Now the moment is yours, as iStore, in partnership with marcforrest.com, invites you to enter the 4th annual South African iPhoneography competition, iPhoneographySA. Entries open today, for anyone who has taken and edited a photo on their iPhone. There are five categories – Abstract, Still Life, Scenery, Portrait and the newly added Selfie – and some 600 of the best works will be showcased later this year at iPhoneographySA Exhibitions in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The category-winners in each city, as well as an overall winner and a Community Choice winner voted for on social platforms, will receive amazing Apple prizes, including iPad minis and MacBook Airs.

“More people are capturing, editing and sharing moments with an iPhone than with any other camera,” says iStore Director Rutger-Jan van Spaandonk. “We are thrilled to launch the 4th iPhoneographySA Competition and support the local community of iPhone enthusiasts.”

iPhoneographySA partner Marc Forrest, Blog Owner of marcforrest.com, encourages iPhoneographers to get snapping and enter the competition. “Whether you have captured a baby’s first steps, taken a selfie while traveling, or photographed the perfect sunset, iPhone can make even the most amateur photographs look professional,” says Marc.

This year’s competition will be judged by a diverse crew of iPhoneographers and social media gurus, among them the bespectacled, Vespa-riding business coach Brent Spilkin, better known to his Twitter and Instagram followers as “Spillly with three Ls”. For Spillly, iPhoneography means liberation from the clunkiness of conventional camera equipment, and a breezy ease of movement that means as much to him as his stylish peppermint-green scooter. “The fact that iPhoneography has allowed me to take photos on the go, is the reason I love it so much,” he says.

Echoing that spontaneous joy and buzz is audio producer Thoban Jappie, whose eyes have been opened to new possibilities and opportunities by the iPhone in his hand. “iPhoneography has enhanced my visual literacy and exposed me to a world of inspiration,” he says. “I’m always looking for that next shot.”

So here’s your chance to look for your next shot, make it your best shot, and stake your claim to being the best iPhoneographer in South Africa. After all, life has its moments…and with an iPhone and an eye for a telling image and a striking detail, you’ll hold the power to make those moments last a lifetime!
